What regulations do you have to look out for when signing something with a digital service? How do you know if a digital signature is valid in your country? We’ll explain the regulations and the difference between signature types.
In EU there is a regulation called eIDAS. The purpose of this regulation is to achieve a satisfying security level for electronic identification and its additional services.
There is a technical standard called the ETSI 319 142 that is built according to the eIDAS regulation. Most commonly known regarding digital signatures is the PAdES or AdES standard. This standard is built according to the ETSI 319 142 standard. So if a service, like ECIT Sign, is using the PAdES standard, it is automatically compliant with the EU eIDAS regulation.
If you are compliant with the eIDAS regulation, your signature is actually legally enforceable in all EU states.
With ECIT Sign you have two options for signing. Either by on screen signature or by using electronic identification (eID). The on screen signature is a simple and universal way of signing a document. This way of signing is in most cases good enough, and may be used all over the world. Though it does not require an identification during the signing process, it does require the signees unique written signature.
If you need the highest security standard for a signature, you may use our eID signature. The signee is required to identify through an identification service like BankID, MittID and other services. ECIT Sign supports a wide range of eIDs across several countries.
If you are using ECIT Sign you have the flexibility of different signature options between countries, and you can be rest assured that your signature is compliant.
